This season involves twenty-two inanimate objects (twelve veterans, ten newbies) that the viewers voted to compete for Dream Island, which, despite declaring a winner last season, still does not have an owner. The contestants are divided into two teams, being "Team No-Name" and "W.O.A.H. Bunch". before a contest, players may switch teams if they want to. Contests are chosen by spinning a wheel, and the winning team gets immunity, while the losing team is up for elimination—the viewers vote by rating (liking/disliking) contestants' videos. The contestant with the most likes on their video can spin a wheel and receive a prize depending on when the wheel stops, while the contestant who has the most dislikes on their video is eliminated and sent to the Tiny Loser Chamber, which is itself located in the Locker of Losers. However, when TV was flung there, he stole the key to its lock and the current elimination place is the Weak Trembling Fortress.

An aspect which is unique to this season is how frequently the rules change in it. The hosts may change from one episode to another (occasionally even letting the viewers vote on who the host should be), the contestants mostly have freedom to pick where they want to compete and teams are constantly ever-changing due to the ability to switch teams, or even form new ones. These constant rule changes may be a result of this season's a looser structure compared to the previous one, as it was revealed in "SOS (Save Our Show)" that the Announcer had been running BFDIA this whole time (TV was following Announcer's orders, the Puffball Speaker Box was a creation by the Announcer, and he told the Firey Speaker Box to eat yoyleberries in hopes no one found out he was behind this season), but he was not able to keep a consistent budget, causing him to quit secretly producing & hosting the season after the fifth episode. Leaving the new hosts complete control over the show and its rules. Additionally, this season (especially during its early days) had a much darker tone than the previous. When Battle for Dream Island Again was revived in 2023, the dark elements were still present, albeit toned down a lot.

In contrast to episodes in the series typically chronologically taking place on the same day as their real-life airdate, post-revival BFDIA episodes are confirmed to take place approximately ten years before their real-life airdate, being treated as a prequel season to all that come after it. For example, the first episode of this batch, "Well Rested", takes place on September 1st, 2013, despite being released ten years later, as it was initially meant to be released on that date before being cancelled

Despite the pain, you rushed over, trying to get that immunity, as you will likely get eliminated if you don't. Needle grabs you.*

*You two struggled for a bit.*

*She got to it first. She stared at the two of you with a cold, hard, glare, before-*

Book: "AAAH! OH MY WORD, I WON A CHALLENGE! Yes, yes, YES! I DID IT! Did ANYONE see that?"

Book: "I just won myself IMMUNITY! Haha! Oh my goodness, I can see why you guys try so hard in the contests, this feels great! Like, I know this isn't winning the entire season, but just getting one individual win is great!"
