The World of Orario: A City Forged by the Dungeon
Orario is a vast, circular-walled city-state, known universally as the "Labyrinth City" or the "City of Adventures." It is the economic and cultural center of the world, existing for one primary purpose: to serve as the gateway to the Dungeon.
The Dungeon:
Beneath the city lies the Dungeon, a living, breathing labyrinth that endlessly generates monsters. It is a near-infinite series of floors, each with its own unique ecosystem, monsters, and dangers. From the relatively safe Upper Floors to the nightmarish, uncharted Deep Floors, the Dungeon is the source of all of Orario's wealth and conflict. Adventurers dive into its depths to harvest Magic Crystals from monsters and retrieve rare Drop Items, which form the backbone of the city's economy.
Babel Tower:
At the very center of the city stands Babel, a colossal white tower that is the tallest structure in the world. It serves as the primary entrance to the Dungeon and the headquarters of the Guild, the administrative body that governs Orario. The tower is a constant, imposing reminder of the city's purpose.
Power Structure: Familias
The true powers of Orario are the Familias. These are organizations formed by a deity (who has descended from Heaven to live in the mortal world) and their mortal followers. A mortal receives a Falna (a divine blessing) from their god, which is manifested as a Status on their back. This Falna allows them to grow in power—increasing their basic abilities (Strength, Endurance, etc.), learning Skills, and developing Spells—by accumulating Excelia (feats of experience) in combat.
Key Familias:
Loki Familia: One of the two most powerful Familias. Focused on dungeon exploration and military strength. Known for their elite executives.
Freya Familia: The other top Familia. Notoriously powerful and selective, obsessed with collecting beautiful souls for their goddess.
Hephaestus Familia: The premier crafting Familia, responsible for the city's finest weapons and armor.
Ganesha Familia: A massive Familia that acts as the city's public security and organizes grand festivals.
Hestia Familia: A small, nascent Familia that has recently gained fame due to the unprecedented growth of its sole adventurer, Bell Cranel.
The Guild:
The Guild is the neutral governing and administrative body of Orario. While it does not have adventurers of its own, it regulates the Familias, records dungeon maps, sets exchange rates for Magic Stones, and works to maintain order. Its leader is the god Ouranos, who prays eternally in a hidden chamber to keep the Dungeon's malevolent will in check.
Districts and Atmosphere:
The city is a chaotic, vibrant mosaic of districts, each with its own flavor:
The Dungeon District: Surrounds Babel. A noisy, bustling area packed with weapon shops, armorers, potion stalls, and taverns catering to adventurers.
The Entertainment District: A place of revelry, containing everything from lively inns like the Hostess of Fertility to the opulent and dangerous pleasure district of Asfirawa.
The Residential Districts: Where the various Familias have their homes, ranging from the humble church basement of Hestia to the palace-like Folkvangr of Freya.
The Market Districts: A sprawling web of commerce where goods from the surface and treasures from the Dungeon are bought and sold.
Society and Culture:
Orario is a city of stark contrasts and relentless ambition. Great wealth from dungeon spoils exists alongside deep poverty. It is a melting pot of races—Humans, Animal People, Pallums (dwarves), Elves, and Prums all coexist, though not always peacefully. Status and power are everything, and a rising adventurer can become a legend overnight. The air is thick with the promise of glory, the risk of death, and the endless, humming energy of a city built on a monster-infested abyss.

The colossal gates of Orario loom before you, their weathered stone etched with the scars of time and the faint, lingering aura of countless adventurers who have passed this way. A current of air flows from the city, carrying a symphony of distant sounds—the rhythmic clang of a hundred forges, the murmur of a thousand conversations, the faint echo of a street musician's tune, and beneath it all, a low, imperceptible hum that seems to emanate from the very stones. It is the sound of life, of ambition, of the great dungeon that breathes beneath the city's foundations. Before you, the city unfolds like a living tapestry. Towers of white stone and colored glass spear the sky, and at its heart, the immense pillar of Babel dominates the horizon, a silent testament to the world's greatest mystery and greatest treasure. The air is thick with the scent of spiced food, smelted metal, exotic perfumes, and the clean, cold smell of ancient rock. People of every race and bearing jostle past you—armored warriors with grim eyes, robed mages clutching staves, lithe Animal People who move with unnatural grace, and sturdy Pallums hauling burdens twice their size. Your eyes catch the glint of myriad emblems on cloaks and armor: the mischievous grin of a clown, the elegant profile of a goddess, a simple hearth. These are the signs of the Familias, the divine families that rule the city's power structure. You adjust the pack on your shoulder, feeling the weight of your possessions—and your aspirations. The path ahead splits into a maze of bustling streets, each leading to a different destiny. The promise of glory and the threat of obscurity hang in the air, equally palpable.

1#1
The air in the dungeon's upper floors was thick with the smell of damp stone, stale moss, and something metallic—blood, perhaps, or the innate scent of the monsters themselves. The gentle, bioluminescent glow from the fungi on the walls cast long, dancing shadows that did little to calm your nerves. Your grip on the cheap, slightly-too-heavy shortsword you'd bought just two days ago was slick with sweat.
This was it. Your first real foray into the Dungeon, away from the well-patrolled entrance on the first few floors. You were on the Fifth Floor, the "Wild Rabbit Habitat." And you were in trouble.
A pair of War Shadows, creatures of darkness with glowing red eyes and claws that could shred leather armor, had cornered you in a dead-end passage. Your shield, a simple round buckler, already bore deep gouges. You were panting, your heart a frantic drum against your ribs. You'd bitten off more than you could chew, lured by the promise of bigger Magic Stone yields.
"Stay back!" you yelled, your voice cracking with a fear you couldn't conceal. You swung your sword in a wide, desperate arc, forcing one of the shadows to recoil. But the other darted in from your blind side. You tried to bring your shield around, but you were too slow. You braced for the searing pain of its claws.
SHIIING!
A blur of silver and chestnut brown shot past you. There was a sound like a wet melon being split, and the War Shadow simply... disintegrated into a fine black dust, its Magic Stone clattering to the floor. The second creature hesitated, its red eyes shifting from you to the new arrival.
You stared, breath caught in your throat.
She stood between you and the monster, her back to you. She was of average height, with a powerfully toned, athletic build evident even through her minimal, dark leather armor. Two long, chestnut-brown pigtails swayed with her movement. In one hand, she held a massive, single-edged blade—an Urga—that looked like it should be impossible to lift, let alone wield with such casual grace.
"Hey there, little fella!" she chirped, her voice a cheerful, almost musical contrast to the life-and-death tension of a moment before. "Picking on a newbie isn't very nice, y'know?"
The War Shadow let out a guttural hiss and lunged.
The girl—no, the adventurer—didn't even flinch. She simply pivoted on one foot, her body a whirlwind of controlled motion. The Urga, a blur of polished steel, swept out in a horizontal arc.
CRUNCH.
The monster vanished into dust before its claws could even get within a foot of her. She stood there, the massive weapon resting easily on her shoulder, and turned to face you. Her face was open and friendly, adorned with a bright, sunny smile that seemed utterly out of place in the gloomy dungeon. Her amber eyes sparkled with genuine warmth.
"You okay?" she asked, tilting her head. "They didn't get you, did they?"
You could only stammer, lowering your sword. "I... I'm fine. Thank you. You... you saved my life."
"Pfft, don't mention it!" she said with a dismissive wave of her free hand. "That's what adventurers are for! We gotta look out for each other, right? I'm Tiona! Tiona Hiryute!"
The name rang a bell. Hiryute... part of the famous Amazonian sisters from the Loki Familia. You were being saved by a member of one of the two most powerful Familias in Orario. The realization made you feel even more like a hopeless rookie.
"T-thank you, Tiona小姐," you managed, using the formal honorific without thinking.
She giggled. "Just Tiona is fine! So, what's your name, newbie? And what are you doing down here all by your lonesome? Fifth Floor's a bit spicy for a solo run on your first day."
"It's... it's my third day, actually," you corrected weakly, feeling a blush of embarrassment. "I thought I could handle it. I was wrong."
"Hey, we all start somewhere!" Tiona said, her enthusiasm undimmed. "I remember my first time in the Dungeon. I got so excited I charged a Minotaur. My sister Tione had to pull me out of its grip by my pigtails!" She laughed, a loud, infectious sound that echoed in the cavern. "So, you got a Familia yet? A god to give you a Falna?"
You shook your head. "No. Not yet. I only just arrived in Orario. I was... I was going to try and prove myself first. To be worth a god's notice."
Tiona placed a hand on her hip, her Urga still resting on her shoulder. "That's a tough way to do it. Silly, too! You can't get stronger without a Falna, and no good god is gonna make you 'prove' yourself before giving you one. That's backwards thinking!" She leaned in closer, her smile turning conspiratorial. "Tell you what. Our expedition is wrapping up for the day. We're heading back to the surface. Why don't you come with us? Safety in numbers! You can walk with me. I'll even give you some tips!"
Before you could answer, a new voice, calm and serene, cut through the air. "Tiona. Stop harassing the poor novice and let us proceed. Lord Finn wants to review the maps before dusk."
You looked past Tiona to see a tall, slender High Elf approaching. She was breathtakingly beautiful, with long, flowing jade-green hair and sharp, intelligent eyes behind a pair of glasses. She carried an ornate staff and radiated an aura of immense power and dignity. Riveria Ljos Alf, the Nine Hell, another executive of the Loki Familia.
"Aw, but Riveria! He's a newbie! And he's all alone!" Tiona protested, pouting.
Riveria's gaze fell upon you, and you felt yourself being assessed, weighed, and measured in an instant. There was no malice in her look, only a cool, detached analysis. "He is alive and uninjured, which is more than can be said for many who make his mistakes. The Dungeon is not a tutoring hall, Tiona. We have responsibilities."
"I know, I know!" Tiona said, turning back to you with an apologetic grin. "But c'mon! Just to the surface? It's on the way!"
Riveria let out a soft, almost imperceptible sigh, a sound of long-suffering patience. "Very well. But do not dally. And you," her eyes locked with yours again, "do not interpret this kindness as a routine occurrence. Reflect on your recklessness. A dead adventurer contributes nothing to this city, and their god is left alone."
Her words were harsh, but they were undeniably true. You nodded meekly. "Yes, ma'am. Thank you."
"Great! It's settled!" Tiona beamed, slapping you on the back with a force that nearly sent you stumbling. "Stick with me, rookie! I'll get you back to the sun in one piece! And hey, if you're looking for a Familia, you should totally think about Loki! We're the best! Well, except when Captain Finn makes us eat boiled vegetables..." she continued, chattering happily as she led the way, effortlessly cleaving a path through any monster foolish enough to appear.
As you walked beside this whirlwind of cheerful destruction, following the majestic Riveria and the rest of the Loki Familia expedition, you felt a strange mix of emotions: shame at your failure, awe at their power, and a burgeoning, fierce determination. This was Orario. This was the level you had to reach. And as Tiona's friendly banter washed over you, for the first time since passing through the city gates, you felt a flicker of genuine belonging. The path ahead was still terrifying, but now, it didn't seem quite so lonely.
